We are SO American Gothic!

We went to Iowa for 3 days this week so Dave could attend a business meeting. We had 2 totally different get aways, let me tell you! I discovered the jewel of Iowa in the form of Jordan Creek Center. The coolest mall I’ve ever seen! And Dave… well, he sat in meetings.  Vivi & I shopped, swam, took walks and got away from the usual crap of everyday life. Not that there’s much to do in Iowa, no, we went 3 hours on the way there with me whining that I was hungry and not a restaurant in sight. Well, none RIGHT off the highway. There were signs for some, but if Dave couldn’t see it from the road, we weren’t a gettin off. Don’t get me started on the fact that he couldn’t stop for a drink at a gas station called Kum & Go… If anyone here is from Iowa, please feel free to step in & clear the record, but from what I could tell…. there’s not really anything there….. BUT maybe they like it that way. I’m not judging.

Ask The Mom: When is Too Old for Binkies & How to Take Them?

This seems to be a very popular question from moms out there. I don’t think there is a clear cut off for age appropriateness of pacifiers; but If I’m being honest, when I see a 4 year old with one, I have an inner cringe. However, I’m a firm believer in “your kid, your rules”, so I support any parents decision to let their child have one for how ever long they’d like. But, I’ll make this my “Ask the Mom” poll over in the side bar so you gan get the feel of what other moms think. Now, when you’re ready, I have some good ideas to help them break the habit.

When Your Child Needs Surgery

When you gave birth, you expected this tiny beautiful human.  Sure, it may be on the loud side, but when it snuggles up against you, it’s quiet and perfect. In my experience, SHE was perfect. She had huge eyes that would watch everything. Even at a couple of hours old. When they came to take her from me I didn’t understand why. They were talking about heart tests and I looked at my husband as if he woud stop them. He didn’t. I wanted to know why. He then informem me that she, our Vivian, was born without an ear canal which caused deafness in her right ear. Funny I had never noticed that. She was just so very perfect in every way for me. Unfortunately, when the inner ear develops, so does the heart, which is why they want to test her, test her and test her again. She came came back to us perfect. a clean bill of health, we were on cloud nine. Nothing is as worse as something being wrong with your child.
